Serving And Leading

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”

1 Peter 4:10

The simplest way to get involved with sharing your voice is to pray! As well as being easy it’s also one of the most important ways a christian can be heard. In fact, God wants to hear from you daily. Prayer is a powerful tool that when used daily can transform lives and change situations.

We are called into a relationship with the Lord and in order to strengthen that bond we have to be in continuous conversation with Him. 1 Thessalonians 16-18 reminds us that a continual and daily prayer life is essential to our christian walk.

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (NIV)

Pray! one more time PRAY! Do not stop having a conversation with God. It is the lifeblood of your walk with Jesus. It can also be a blessing for someone else. Troubles and trials will come our way from time to time. Take the time to earnestly pray for family, friends, co-workers, even strangers and also those that might be considered an enemy. “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” Marl 11:24 (KJV) “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and; pray for those who spitefully use you.” Luke 6:27-28 One the greatest ways you can help us serve here at Voice of the Servant is to commit to pray. Pray for the missionaries and evangelists that are throughout the world sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with the lost. Pray for the leaders of the United States and the other countries around this world. Pray that they would lead according to the example set before us in Jesus. Pray for your communities, for the people struggling with any number of problems in their life, for the churches to be filled with people hungry to hear the message and for every man, woman and child that they might hear the message of salvation. We are committed to praying continuously so that our voice is heard.

A great place to get involved is a local church. If you don’t already have a church home I highly recommend finding somewhere to worship. Not only is it scriptural that we should come together in unified worship…

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.  Acts 2:42-46

but, it provides a way to get involved in a number of ways. Being part of church means more than showing up on a Sunday for a couple of hours. The main purpose is to worship the Lord. However, attending regularly will provide you with opportunities to serve in ways you could only imagine. You might be led to travel with a missions group, where you have the chance to share Jesus with people who may have never heard his name. Finding a church allows you to get plugged in with other individuals that are like minded and have a heart that seeks after the Lord. Sharing your life experiences with others can help someone that might be struggling with their faith. You might find that you want to teach biblical principles to some of the other members. Or you might find serving right there in your community to equally rewarding. Serving the homeless in a local shelter, visiting with the sick at a local hospital and spending time helping the elderly, widowed or children. Their are so many ways to get involved sharing Christ with people, but finding a church home to get involved with, surrounded by other caring Christians makes it a lot easier and a lot more satisfying. One way to have our voices heard is to volunteer. It might be one of the simplest ways to get involved both locally and on a much larger national level. In fact, most non-profit and religious organizations rely heavily on volunteer hours. With budgets strained or non-existent volunteers are the life blood of quite a few worthy causes. It can be a great way to give back to your community, your local church or a local organization.

Volunteering only takes one simple thing, your time. You might be saying my time is precious and I have very little time to give. I think we can all relate to the situation of seeming to just not have enough time to get everything done. It might mean that we have to shift our priorities a bit in order to get a little more involved. It may be that we need to spend less time in front of the TV and social media and more time down at the local homeless shelter ministering to those that need to hear about Jesus’ love for them and more importantly see it firsthand.

Without volunteers most churches, non-profit organizations and charities would simply cease to exist. No part is too small when it comes to volunteers. Helping on Sundays to care for the children in your church, helping collect food for the local food bank, delivering meals to shut ins so they eat or ringing a bell at Christmas time in front of a local business. There are no positions too small when it comes to being a volunteer. Local public service agencies need volunteers to help reduce the costs of their goods and services. National and International organizations utilize volunteers in almost every way, shape or form. Jesus instructed us to give of ourselves to those that might need some help along the way.

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Acts 20:35 (NIV).

So reach out to the ministry groups in your local church, to the local and national non-profit organizations or to your neighbor, friends and family that just down the street. you never know what impact your voice can have once it is heard.
